When I think of the city, I picture materials like concrete, steel, and brick. I see the daily bustle of urban life with cars weaving through intersections and people walking towards the tall buildings that make up the landscape. Even in the downtown environment of Pittsburgh, one can still feel a sense of nature because of the three rivers, calm parks, and plants and wildlife. I wanted to express the idea of nature in the city and show that although nature and city are opposite things, they can coincide. I thought it would be interesting to express my idea by producing photos that show the city through nature. In the photos one can see how the city and nature contrast when they meet. The distinction between something man-made and something pure often catches my eye. Cities are often perceived as unnatural, but there is actually more nature in the city than one would think. I personally like living in the city, but I also love nature so to bring those two things together was enjoyable for me. I feel that urbanization is dominating the planet, and having nature within cities helps us to keep connections to life.
